About Us

Kurt GantertFounder/Director- Kurt Gantert is the founder and Director of Wanderers. He has worked in the outdoor education/adventure travel field for over 20 years as a wilderness guide, outdoor educator and a program director for highly-respected companies including Adventures Cross-Country, Mountain Travel Sobek and Naturalists at Large. Kurt has guided hiking and canoe trips in Canada, Alaska, California, North Carolina, Hawaii and the Southwestern US. He is certified in Wilderness First Responder (an 80-hour wilderness medical course), CPR and has taken a 30-day National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) course in Alaska. Kurt likes nothing better than exploring with children in the outdoors.  He says this about kids in nature:  "The curiosity and excitement kids have in nature is infectious.  It always leads me to believe that children are meant to play on rocks, search for critters in streams and just get dirty playing outside!"  Kurt resides in San Francisco with his wife and two children.

Instructors- Wanderers hires some of the best outdoor educators in the Bay area. All of the instructors are trained in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. They also have extensive experience leading groups of young people and teaching in the outdoors. We require that instructors are at least 21 years of age or older, have a clean driving record and no criminal background. We specifically hire men and women who love working with children and can effectively share their passion and enthusiasm for the outdoors.

Our San Francisco adventure camps are among the best summer camps in California. If you are searching for a Northern California sleepaway camp, research our kids’ summer camps in San Francisco.

The San Francisco adventure camps offered by Wanderers are among the best summer camps in California. Going away to camp is a milestone moment in any child’s life. If you are ready for your son or daughter to attend his or her first Northern California sleepaway camp, one of our options is sure to be perfect. We have several five to six day camp options available for kids aged 7-14. The children who attend Wanderers camps spend their days doing a wide range of activities, which sets us apart from other San Francisco summer camps. Your child will get to touch starfish, find huckleberries, look for tule elk, play in redwood forests, rock climb on granite, and do a number of other things. Throughout the week, your child will get to engage in team-building exercises that will improve his or her interpersonal skills. Wanderers’ camps culminate with a fun challenge day in which all of the campers participate.
